Draft Bill arrives in Congress: De-Militarize our local police
Take a look at this draft bill by Democrat Congressman Hank Johnson of Georgia:

Rep. Henry “Hank” Johnson has indicated that he will introduce a bill when Congress returns from August Recess to “end the free transfers of certain aggressive military equipment to local law enforcement and ensure that all equipment can be accounted for.”
The bill targets a Pentagon surplus program that transfers military equipment like mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles to local governments, including MRAPs (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicles.
A “Dear Colleague” letter from Rep. Johnson states: “Our main streets should be a place for business, families, and relaxation, not tanks and M16s. Unfortunately, due to a Department of Defense (DOD) Program that transfers surplus DOD equipment to state and local law enforcement, our local police are quickly beginning to resemble paramilitary forces.”
What are your thoughts on a bill like this? On hand we want those that we ask to run TO DANGER to be protected if bad guys seek to do them harm. On the other hand do want, in essence, to have a “military” type presence in our neighborhoods in the name of “law enforcement”? Discuss…by
